Almost everyone feels motivated when they first decide to improve their fitness.
New goal. New workout program. New shoes. Maybe even a new gym membership.
The difficult part usually isn't starting. It's continuing.
Some days you'll feel ready to train. Other days you'll be tired, busy, stressed, or simply won't feel like exercising.
That's normal. If your fitness routine depends entirely on feeling motivated, it becomes easy to fall out of the habit.
Consistency means showing up even when the workout isn't perfect.
Instead of asking yourself every day whether you're going to work out, decide ahead of time. Choose the days that realistically fit your life.
Maybe that's Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Maybe it's four days per week. Maybe your schedule changes every week.
There is no single perfect routine. The best routine is one you can consistently follow.
You don't have to break a personal record every time you enter the gym.
Some workouts will be excellent. Some will be average. Occasionally, getting through 30 minutes and going home may be exactly what you needed that day.
Those workouts still count. Over months and years, consistency usually matters far more than one extraordinary workout.
Fitness doesn't require constantly changing your routine. Get comfortable with the basics. Gradually add resistance. Improve your technique. Build endurance. Give your body time to adapt.
Small improvements repeated consistently can eventually produce major results.
Where you train matters. A gym should be somewhere you feel comfortable walking through the door whether you're an experienced lifter or completely new to exercise.
At Spartan Fitness of Columbia, we're proud of the close-knit, community atmosphere our members have helped create.
We have people training for different reasons, at different ages, and at every level of experience. Everyone started somewhere.
There will always be another Monday. Another month. Another New Year's resolution.
You don't have to keep starting over. Build something you can maintain.
You don't need to be perfect. You just need to keep showing up.
We'll have the doors open for you.
